When to Seek a Speech Therapist

You don't need a doctor's referral to seek a professional opinion. Consider booking a consultation if you notice these red flags:

• No babbling or gesturing (like pointing or waving "bye-bye") by 12 months.
• No meaningful first words by 18 months.
• Less than 50 words and no two-word phrases (e.g., "Mamma give," "More doodh") by 24 months.
• Difficulty understanding simple, everyday instructions like "Come here" or "Give it to Dadi."

Why Early Intervention Matters

A child's brain is incredibly adaptable in the first three years of life—a concept called neuroplasticity. Early intervention isn't about "fixing" your child; it is about giving them the tools to communicate, reducing their daily frustration, and teaching you, the parent, how to stimulate their language naturally at home. Seeking help is a sign of proactive parenting, not a failure.

Ask about a hearing check when communication is a concern. Seek prompt medical advice if a child loses skills they previously used or if there are other urgent developmental or health concerns.
